How to make your own "Speedway" track!

Toy Racing's "Hayesville Speedway". Suitable for radio control cars to 500cc methanol burning speedway motorcycles

By Frank Crane

1. Choose a location where the track can be. I suggest you make it twice as long as it is wide. With run-off room.

2. Turn over all the dirt with a tractor/tiller, adding de-composed granite(DG) or cinders(volcanic rock) if desired(the best surface is DG). Mix completely!

3 Sift out any rocks or other debris. This is important! A rock 1/2 inch in size can start a huge hole if it ends up in the surface.

4. Start packing. A van with wide tires works good. The shorter your track... the shorter wheelbase vehicle you'll need to pack it.

5 Start dragging. You'll need a drag at least 4' by 8'. It can be fabricated out of steel with pegs or bolts face down to "scrape" the imperfections off the surface. Drag it length-wise to prevent "waves" in your surface(the larger the drag, the better)

6. Water thoroughly. Don't puddle any water. Only give it what it will soak up. You don't want any mud 'cause you're going to drag and pack again!

7. Pack, drag, water, drag, pack, etc.

8. Repeat until it's smooth. Skip the water when the dirt has enough in it(as much as possible without being muddy on the surface).

9. Once your track is done...... in nicer weather... water your track good the night before racing.

10. Have fun! (hopefully you won't need the '68 Cadillac Hearst pictured in the background)!
